SETA holistically serves families in Sacramento County. From funding partners and community-based organizations to providing workforce development. But SETA goes beyond that. SETA’s Head Start program is not only an educational program, but a cornerstone of community support and development. Through the voices of parents, we can understand the profound impact this program has on families and children.
Timesha Seymore, a dedicated mother and former associate teacher, has two children enrolled in SETA’s Head Start program. Her 4-year-old son Freddie and 5-year-old daughter Malaya are currently thriving in their preschool classrooms, having been part of SETA since their Early Head Start days.
Timesha’s experience with SETA has been profoundly positive. She shares, “The teachers and staff give their all to the children. The growth and fine motor skills [my kids] get to bring home, they learn from SETA’s Head Start program.” As a working mom, Timesha appreciates the support she receives, stating, “I don’t have time to do everything that I would like to do, and they stepped in and do what they need to do.”
The academic progress her children have made is remarkable. “My son is doing math already and not just the ‘what’s 1 + 2?’, but ‘what’s 7+7?’ They are learning and bringing these tools home. They are ecstatic about it,” she says. Beyond academics, SETA instills essential life skills in the children. “They give my child the tools on how to treat others with respect. They have principles of how to be healthy, to be safe, to be kind, and it’s been ingrained since they’ve been here. It goes beyond the academics.”
Timesha emphasizes the community aspect of SETA, describing it as a family. “This program is family. This is a community here and they build safe spaces. They will often help you to encourage you to be the best parent you can be.” Her heartfelt endorsement of the program is clear: “It’s an amazing place. I love SETA Head Start. My family would not be the same without it.”
Through her journey with SETA, Timesha has seen firsthand the transformative impact the program has on children and families. Her story is a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of SETA’s Head Start program in fostering growth, learning, and community.
