Highlights from August Workforce Events

August was a busy month for SETA’s Sacramento Works, with events that showcased the breadth of services we offer to both employers and job seekers, including recruitment support, career coaching, pop-up events, and rapid response assistance.

Kickstarting State Careers with DIR

One of the highlights this month was our ongoing partnership with the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), which returned to our headquarters on Del Paso Blvd. for another recruitment event and workshop titled Kickstart Your State Career with Expert Help. DIR has committed to holding these events every other month, and the August session drew 28 participants. Attendees received guidance on CalCareers, help with resume building, and had the opportunity to meet directly with DIR recruiters.

Based on strong interest and positive feedback, DIR events will continue to evolve. October’s session will encourage attendees to bring their own laptops so we can accommodate more job seekers when the computer lab reaches capacity.

Quick Action When Employers Face Change

Our Rapid Response program remains our most requested employer service, and for good reason. In August, we activated Rapid Response services for two employers: Blue Diamond, which held a layoff support session for 110 employees, and At Home in Elk Grove, which saw 14 employees attend their session.

Rapid Response is designed to help employers navigate layoffs or closures with care while supporting displaced workers with resources, job referrals, and training options. In 2024 alone, we partnered with over 40 employers and supported more than 4,000 employees through these transitions.

Pop-Up and Career Connection, Flexible Options for Employers

August also included several of our regular pop-up mini job fairs, held every Monday at Mark Sanders Job Center. These events give employers a chance to connect directly with job seekers—often UI participants—right in the lobby. Organizations like Bank of Montreal, USPS, and the Department of Consumer Affairs regularly attend, making this a great ongoing opportunity for hiring managers.

For employers looking for virtual options, our monthly Career Connection event offer an easy way to meet candidates online. In August, Los Rios Community College District joined us to recruit for multiple positions and CareBuilders at Home joined us to recruit caregivers through this platform, showing just how adaptable these services can be for different industries and hiring needs.

Whether you’re hiring, downsizing, or planning your next outreach event, SETA’s Sacramento Works is here to help. Reach out to explore how we can support your workforce needs with flexible, responsive services!
