This summer, a powerful partnership between SMUD, SETA, and four regional Unified School Districts—Twin Rivers USD, Elk Grove USD, Natomas USD, and Folsom Cordova USD—came to life through the successful launch of the 2025 SMUD Summer Internship Program. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to preparing the next generation of leaders through meaningful, hands-on workforce opportunities.
After weeks of preparation, training, and interviews, the journey culminated on Monday, June 23, 2025, as 12 outstanding interns officially began their internship experience at various SMUD locations across the region.
As part of their onboarding, interns participated in True Colors Training—a dynamic workshop designed to enhance their understanding of multiple perspectives and personality types. This engaging experience fostered stronger communication, collaboration, and self-awareness as they transitioned into the professional environment.
The success and impact of this training have also sparked interest among SETA staff, leading to an exciting new development: several team members are now preparing to become certified True Colors facilitators. This expansion not only strengthens internal capacity but also reinforces our commitment to fostering emotionally intelligent workplaces.
Now embedded within departments focused on clean energy, community engagement, and innovation, these young professionals are gaining real-world exposure while actively contributing to projects that shape the future of Sacramento.
More than just an internship, this program is a testament to the power of collaboration and cross-sector partnership. It not only connects youth to purposeful career pathways but also strengthens the relationship between education, workforce development, and industry.
We proudly celebrate the achievements of these interns and the collective effort that helped transform their potential into purpose.
