Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Guidance

The purpose of message is to provide guidance regarding the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). SETA has been and will continue to follow the recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

The virus is thought to spread from person-to-person through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes within about 6 feet. The symptoms of this virus are fever, cough, and shortness of breath. The CDC believes that the symptoms may appear in as few as 2 days or as long as 14 days after exposure. It is important to note that the risk to the general public with regard to the virus in California remains low.

Prevention is key to avoid being exposed.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick with any of the symptoms.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask.
    • CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19.
    • Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to  others.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
    • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.

In response to this new virus, remember to be respectful, fair, and without bias in your interactions with all persons. Do not assume someone of a particular national origin, race, or background is more likely to have COVD-19. Per the CDC, people who have returned from travel abroad more than 14 days ago and do not have symptoms are not considered to be a risk to others. People from affected countries that live in the U.S. may be worried or anxious about friends and relatives who are living in the region. Social support during this outbreak can help them cope.
