A Stronger Sacramento Workforce

September has been a busy and inspiring month at SETA. In just five days, three successful events brought together employers, workforce leaders, community partners, and job seekers around a shared goal: creating real opportunities across the Sacramento region.

HEC Workforce Development Symposium

On September 11, the third annual HEC Workforce Development Symposium returned to Midtown Church with this year’s theme, “Rooted & Rising: Connecting Purpose, Workforce & Wellness.” Leaders from business, education, nonprofits, government, healthcare, and the faith community explored how stronger connections can improve workplace readiness, well-being, access, and workforce participation.

The event welcomed more than 150 residents and community leaders for the morning symposium, followed by more than 300 community members at the afternoon Job Fair. More than 30 employers participated, connecting job seekers with employment opportunities, career resources, training programs, and health and wellness support.

This year’s event featured four additional workshops, along with expanded drop-in assistance for resumes and county applications. The energy in the room made one thing clear: collaboration is growing, and so is its impact.

Fall Expo Career Fair

Then, on September 16, our annual Fall Expo Career Fair filled the Lemon Hill Job Center with possibility. 50 employers met approximately 493 job seekers, many of whom left with interviews scheduled and next steps already underway.

Two popular workshops— “Pathway to Sacramento County” and “How to Get a State Job”—each welcomed 35 attendees. Our Head Start team also connected with several families interested in enrolling their children at the new Lemon Hill-area location.

CAPBIO Summit

Also on September 16, SETA participated in the inaugural CAPBIO Summit at Aggie Square, which brought together industry, research, education, workforce and community leaders focused on Sacramento’s growing biotech and life sciences sector. Renee John, Deputy Director of Workforce, served as a panelist for “Grow Your Own: Developing Job-Ready Biotech Talent Pipelines,” highlighting the importance of developing local talent and creating pathways into emerging career opportunities. SETA’s Workforce Development team also participated in the summit, while Governing Board member Mayor Pro Tem Eric Guerra served as a speaker.

Through these regional partnerships and conversations, SETA continues to help connect employers, job seekers and community partners while supporting a workforce prepared for both current and emerging career opportunities.
