Community College Certificate Programs


Certificate programs have been developed, with the assistance of business and industry advisory committees, to provide vocational training for students who are not seeking a college degree. The student is awarded a Certificate of Achievement upon completion of the required courses. It generally takes from two to four semesters of study to complete a Certificate of Achievement.

Job Corp is a U.S. Department of Labor-funded program for low-income residents of Sacramento County and Yolo County, ages 16-24 years. This program has facilities for residential and non-residential students and offers vocational training in: building and apartment maintenance, carpentry, cement masonry, culinary arts, heavy equipment operations, heavy equipment mechanic, landscape and grounds keeper, office careers, painting and wallpaper hanging, plastering, retail sales, security officer or word processing/data entry as well as GED preparation and testing, and English-as-a-Second Language.

There is no maximum age limit for disabled individuals. Students receive medical and dental care, clothing allotments, a monthly living allowance, housing, meals and a subsidized savings program. Counseling and job placement services are also available.



California Conservation Corps (CCC)

You must be 18-23 years of age, not on probation, or parole, and a California resident. You will be contracted for one-year with the California Conservation Corps.

Corps members are assigned to residential or non-residential centers located throughout California. Members are employed full-time to landscape, build parks, restore historical structures and respond to emergencies such as wild land fires, floods, oil spills, and earthquakes.

CCC offers educational assistance and an $800 scholarship upon completion of the Corps.



Sacramento Local Conservation Corps (SLCC)

Participants are 18-23 years of age and residents of Sacramento County or West Sacramento. SLCC is dedicated to conserving Sacramento's natural resources. Corps members are trained in public service conservation work including stream clearance, tree planting, public parks development, beautification, and recycling.

An education program is a mandatory component of the SLCC. Classes are provided in the areas of G.E.D. preparation, career development, C.P.R. and First Aid certification training, conservation, community awareness, and life skills.

SLCC conducts an application orientation the first and third Wednesdays of each month.



AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps is a National Community Service Program. Members must be 17 years or older, and a U.S. citizen or legal resident. In exchange for one year of full time (1700 hours) or part time (900 hours) service in the area of education, public safety, human needs, or the environment, a participant will receive an education award of $4725 (full time) or $2362.50 ( part time) to help finance a college education or vocational training, or to repay student loans. During the term of service, AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance.



Vietnam Veterans of California

Veterans of the Vietnam Era (August 5, 1964 to May 7, 1975), Veterans separated during the past 48 months, or veterans with a 30% service-connected disability and who are dislocated workers may be eligible for on-the-job training or direct employment referrals. An EDD veterans representative is located on site. Supportive Services are provided as needed including drug and alcohol abuse counseling and referrals.

Vietnam Veterans of California also offers a transitional living program to previously homeless veterans of any era. Participants must be employable and free of substance abuse.

In cooperation with ParaTransit, Vietnam Veterans of California operates a driver training program which is open to non-Veterans. Entrance requirements include a clear DMV. The program lasts 4 months and you are paid while you train. Call the intake staff for more information.
